Prisons Official Selling Human Parts

The spate at which ritualists and dealers in human parts are caught in their evil acts is not only frightening but raises very pertinent questions – what has the world turned to? Is the quest for riches and power so intense that people no longer fear God and respect the sanctity of human life?
These questions and more must have been playing on the minds of many when they beheld with shock, Inspector Ajayi who claims to be a former staff of the Nigerian Prisons Service, as he was recently nabbed with human parts in Ilesa, Osun state.

34 Arrested over damoche death

o fewer than 34 students of the Lagos State University have missed the first semester examinations which began on Monday. The students are currently in police detention following the killings of two students of the institution. The implication of this is that the students will automatically carry over all their courses.

The development could also lead to some of them having extra year because some of the courses must be passed before advanced level of the courses could be studied. Over 70 students were arrested in connection with the killings of two students of the school, Hip Hop artiste, Damilola Olaniyan aka Damino Damoche and Kabiru Atoyebi.
It was learnt that after the suspects were screened at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, about 36 students were released while others remained in custody. The Students Union Government of the institution had appealed to the school authorities to ensure the suspected students were allowed to participate in the examination, while their interrogation continued. According to a source in the school, who pleaded anonymity, the SUG feels that the students do not deserve to be treated like criminals since they have not been found guilty.
He said, “The students were indiscriminately arrested in their hostels by policemen and abandoned in the cell since March 3, 2013.” But the SUG’s Public Relations Officer, Adeleke Stephen, said, “This is a clear example of the effect of cultism. I see no reason why students should not face their education. For the good of all, I advise all students on campus to avoid engaging in cultism and all acts that may lead to disorderliness.”
All efforts to speak with the spokesperson for the institution, Sola Fosudo, proved abortive as all calls made to his telephone rang out. The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. John Obafunwa, when contacted, directed our correspondent to his deputy. However, a senior official of the school, who craved anonymity, said it was not LASU’s fault that the students missed sitting for the examination. He added that the school would not make any concession for them.

How the pope is selected.

For centuries, leaders of the Roman Catholic Church have been chosen at the Vatican in private gatherings known as conclaves.

Much secrecy surrounds this conclave (scheduled to begin on March 12) and its historic vote, which usually happens in the days after a pope dies. But this year brings a rare twist: For the first time in 600 years, a pope has resigned.

The cardinal electors

Technically, any Roman Catholic male can be elected pope. But since 1379, every pope has been selected from the College of Cardinals, the group casting the votes at the conclave.
Many of the cardinals are bishops and archbishops appointed by the pope to assist in religious issues. Some work at the Vatican, but most are spread out worldwide running dioceses or archdioceses.
When it's time to vote for a new pope, every cardinal under the age of 80 travels to Rome to participate. In attendance this time will be 115 cardinals, 67 of whom were appointed by Pope Benedict XVI, who stepped down last month at age 85.
Roll over the squares below to see the names of the cardinal electors and where they're from, broken down by region.

The conclave

Once all the cardinals have arrived, the conclave begins with a special morning Mass in St. Peter's Basilica. In the afternoon, the cardinals walk to the Sistine Chapel -- with its iconic Michelangelo frescoes -- to start the voting process.
The vote is held behind closed doors, and its secrecy is closely guarded. The chapel is checked for hidden microphones and cameras, and the cardinals are not allowed to talk about the proceedings with anyone outside the group. If they do, they could be excommunicated.

The vote

Inside the Sistine Chapel, paper ballots are passed out to each cardinal, who writes the name of their chosen candidate below the words "Eligo in Summen Pontificem" (Latin for "I elect as supreme pontiff"). Cardinals cannot vote for themselves.
See possible papal contenders »
When they're done, each cardinal -- in order of seniority -- walks to an altar to ceremoniously place his folded ballot into a chalice. The votes are then counted up and the result is read to the cardinals.
If a cardinal has received two-thirds of the vote, he becomes the new pope.
If there is no pope, as many as four votes a day -- two in the morning and two in the afternoon -- can be held on the second, third and fourth days of the conclave. The fifth day is set aside to break for prayer and discussion, and then voting can continue for an additional seven rounds. After that, there's another break and the pattern resumes.

The white smoke

We can't get into the Sistine Chapel, but we'll know whether there's a new pope simply by watching the smoke that comes from the Vatican's rooftop.
Ballots are burned after the votes, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. If a pope hasn't been chosen, the ballots will be burned along with a chemical that makes the smoke black.
If the smoke is white, however, the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholics have a new head of the church.

The pope is revealed

Traditionally, about 30 to 60 minutes after the white smoke, the new pope will appear on the balcony overlooking St. Peter's Square. Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, if he's not elected pope himself, will announce the words "Habemus Papam" (Latin for "We have a pope") and introduce the new pope by his chosen papal name.
The new pope will then speak briefly and say a prayer. His formal coronation will take place days after his election. The last two popes have been inaugurated in St. Peter's Cathedral.

SHOCKING-- Bizman rapes mentally-ill teenager

Policemen attached to Igando Division have arrested a business man who allegedly raped a recuperating mentally ill teenager, where she was chained in an apartment at Egan, a Lagos suburb.

The suspected rapist  identified as Gowo Ewhe, sneaked into the teenager’s apartment (names withheld) located on 14 Akindele Street, Tuesday, after her parents and other occupants had gone out and allegedly had carnal knowledge of her.
But the bubble burst  following the  discovery of  the teenager’s blood stained underwear by her mother on arrival in the evening. Out  of curiosity,  she asked  what happened only to be informed by her daughter of what transpired earlier.
Her mother, a petty trader at Igando market, reportedly raised alarm, consequent upon which the alleged perpetrator who at that time was resting in his room with his wife and  three children was apprehended and handed over to the police.
At the station, the suspect reportedly claimed he was tempted beyond his capability.
The case, was  thereafter charged to Ejigbo Magistrate court, yesterday, from where the 42-year-old  suspect was remanded in Kirikiri prison custody till February 27,2013.
Meantime, gunmen numbering three, yesterday, stormed an eatery located at First Avenue, Festac Town, shooting a Police Corporal , identified simply as Levi, for attempting to save a Lebanese from being kidnapped..
The gunmen, reportedly stormed the  at about 9.30 pm and made straight for where the owner,  a Lebanese, was.
During the scuffle between the kidnappers and Lebanese, the Police Corporal  said to have been deplored to the eatery, suspected danger and intervened. But he was taken by surprise as one of the kidnappers reportedly opened fire on him.
During the shooting spree, the Lebanese was said to have managed to escape.
Although an unconfirmed report said the Corporal died on the spot, with his riffle taken away by the kidnappers.
Effort to get the reaction of the Lagos State Police Public Relations officer, Ngozi Braide as she was said to be conducting an interview when Vanguard called her line.
But Police sources at Area ‘E’ simply confirmed that there was shooting at First avenue but could not state whether any arrest was made

Lagos explosion: Police arrest suspected mastermind

LAGOS — An alleged mastermind and prime suspect of Monday bomb explosion at Miracle Sand Beach in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, which killed the chairman of  Sand Dredgers Association, Chief Oladele Pius, and injured a Police Inspector,  has been arrested.

The suspect whose identity could not be ascertained was alleged to have orchestrated the explosion with the help of nine other persons. Surprisingly, he was discovered to be one of the deceased oldest staff.
Vanguard gathered that he was arrested at the scene of the blast, yesterday, while retrieving some wires buried under the sand, suspected to have been  connected to the explosive device which rocked the area.
None, at first, raised an eyebrow when he was  sighted loitering around the explosion scene, which has been vacated by the deceased colleagues. But all of a sudden, a man later discovered to be an undercover policeman reportedly appeared from nowhere and apprehended him with the wires.
Although it could not be ascertained what his mission was, Police sources hinted that it could have been a ploy to further hinder the already difficult attempt by bomb experts to ascertain  the type of explosives used.
Effort to reach the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, on the arrest failed. But sources at the Police Headquarters, confirmed the arrest, hinting that investigation at the end  would ascertain the real position.
Suspect names 9 accomplices
It was also gathered that during interrogation, the suspect mentioned nine other persons as his accomplices. At press time, it was gathered that the investigative team headed by the Area ‘E’ Commander, Mr Dan Okoro, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was on the trail of the suspects mentioned. It was, however, said that some of them had bolted.
“Yes, it is true that we are holding someone in connection with Monday’s explosion.  We are still quizzing him. From the way he is talking, he looks suspicious. But we cannot outrightly state whether he is the prime suspect or not now until investigation is concluded,” Police sources told Vanguard yesterday.
Youths plan protest
Meanwhile, youths and beneficiaries of the late Oladele’s kind gesture still throng his apartment.
When Vanguard visited, the youths were planning to stage a peaceful protest to Alausa to expressed their displeasure at the Lagos State Police Command position that an electrical fault caused the death of their benefactor and also to appeal to Governor Babatunde Fashola to prevail on the Police to fish out perpetrators of the dastardly act.   They even deprived some policemen from entering the deceased duplex
However, family members o f the late Oladele have  reportedly started making arrangement on his interment.

Lagos explosion: Bomb experts confused over type of device

bomb experts are finding it difficult to ascertain the type of explosive used for the substance which  exploded, Monday, at Miracle Sand Beach, in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos, killing the Chairman of the Sand Dredgers Association, Chief Oladele Pius,  and injured a  policeman.
The experts, according to a reliable source, suspect that the exhibits at the explosive scene were tampered with before their arrival.

Consequently, some of the bomb experts visited the explosion scene again, yesterday, to get fresh clues for their investigation.
But it was learnt that they arrived the scene late, on the day of the incident, an action our source said was attributed to lack of logistics.
Colleagues disagree  with CP
Meantime, bemoaning the loss of Oladele, his colleagues at Miracle Sand Beach, eulogized his virtues, expressing their displeasure over the Lagos State Police Commissioner’s  statement that the tragic incident was caused by an electrical fault.
One of them who could not hide his consternation over the report, attempted to rough handle some newsmen, blaming them for taking sides with the police.  The report, according to some of them, was part of the reason why some journalists were barred from entering the deceased’s apartment.
“Why would you people believe everything that is said? Is investigation not part of your job. Look around for yourselves, are there any electrical gadgets here? Then, why must you add that in your report?” Mr Showunmi, as he was later identified, asked.
Materials collected from the scene
So far, it was gathered that materials collected from the scene of the blast included blood stained sand; pieces of black Jumbo radio set, six 1.5 volt tiger head battery,  red and white wire measuring 34cm in length; flexible twin wire measuring 529 centimeters in length and one glass tumbler.
However, Police sources hinted that the major substance of Improvised Explosive Device IED, among the exhibits were absent, hinting that they could have been tampered with before the arrival of bomb experts. But the wire and battery were said to be the only components of IED.
Sources said from the length of the recovered wire, it was obvious that the explosive could have been planted and controlled through the river, a vantage position attributed to the ease with which the mission was  accomplished
Benefactors suspect foul play
Sympathisers, majority of whom claimed to be  beneficiaries of the deceased’s benevolence, besieged his Lake View estate residence to condole the widows.
Among them were social miscreants, who staged a protest against what they described as a premeditated act.
They alleged that the deceased whom they all referred to as Apase, could have been killed by his rivals over chairmanship tussle.
In a show of solidarity to their late benefactor, the youths took over security, as they conducted search on every caller at the residence. The search, according to them, was to ensure that those they alleged  killed Oladele would not come and plant another bomb in his residence.
Some arrests made
Vanguard reliably gathered that as part of on-going investigation, some persons have been arrested over the tragic incident. The arrested persons were reportedly those who spoke with the deceased shortly before the explosion occurred.
Vanguard’s findings revealed that after the late Oladele left his office for home that fateful morning, he was reluctant to go back to the office, as he complained to his second wife, Seun, of having an usual feeling.
The first phone call he received was reportedly from the policeman that was with him when the blast occurred. Other calls came in at about 10.54 am, 11.06 am, 11,25am and 11.30am respectively.
The persistent call which eventually forced the Ondo State-born father of five out of bed came i, two seconds intermittently.
It was also learnt that the late Oladele had once escaped an assassination attempt.
“Several assassination attempts, including diabolical, have been made on his life in the past but none succeeded. I think they wanted to ensure he died this time around, that was why they planted a bomb where he usually seat,” one of the sympathizers said.

A TORMENTED boy of nine hanged himself at home after “relentless bullying” at school, his family claimed yesterday.

Cops are investigating why Aaron Dugmore killed himself in what appears to be Britain’s second youngest suicide caused by bullying. He was found unconscious at home by distraught mum Kelly, 30, and died 24 hours later in hospital on Tuesday.

He recently joined 450-pupil Erdington Hall primary in Birmingham, which said he “settled in quickly”. But emotional Facebook tributes spoke of bullying. Cousin Jack Jones wrote: “RIP Aaron. You can rest now with nobody to hurt you.”

Kelly posted the last photos of her boy online and wrote: “It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Xxxx” A neighbour said: “Aaron had been targeted by a gang of older bullies at school as he was the new kid but no one thought it was any more than playground stuff.””
